The Importance of Mental Health in Rural Communities

“Mental health is an important issue in our rural communities where stress and isolation can take a heavy toll,” said Cheryal Hills, Executive Director of Region Five Development Commission. “Our agricultural mental health program ensures that farmers, their families, and farm service providers have local trusted, confidential supports to help navigate the challenges of our complex and changing agricultural industry.”

Agricultural mental health professionals provide confidential care at no cost. They offer services for one or two sessions or on an extended basis. These professionals provide flexible options for meetings and focus on helping individuals manage stress and build healthy coping strategies.

How to Access Support

If you need help and are concerned that it may be too late, you can call the 24/7 Minnesota Farm & Rural Helpline at 833-600-2670 or dial 988. More resources are available at www.mnfarmstress.com.

About the Agricultural Mental Health and Wellness Program

Region Five Development Commission facilitates and fiscally administers the Agricultural Mental Health and Wellness Program. This program is funded by the Minnesota Legislature in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota State Agricultural Centers of Excellence.

With the addition of Tracie and Jennifer, the Region Five Development Commission is enhancing its support for agricultural mental health. This initiative is crucial for the well-being of farmers and their families, who often face unique challenges in rural life. The commitment to providing accessible mental health resources is a significant step forward in addressing these issues.

By fostering a supportive environment, we can help individuals manage their mental health more effectively. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. Reach out for help when you need it.
